Using File Manager

When you run a website, you typically have a multitude of files, images and other data goodies that you'll need to move around from time to time. File management can be a daunting task, but luckily your cPanel web hosting controls also include a handy file transfer function. This allows you to create files, delete files and move files around the folders that form the infrastructure of your website. The following information will walk you through the steps of manipulating the file management functions of your website's cPanel interface.

Steps for Using File Manager

  1. Make sure you are already logged in to your cPanel account
  2. Scroll down
  3. Click the "File Manager" icon
  4. Use file manger to upload, delete files and change permissions
  5. On the left of the page, find a list of all of the folders in your account
  6. When you select a file on the left, a list of folders within that folder can be found on the right
  7. Find the right folder to work with (Images, etc. go into the public_html folder)
  8. Click the .cgi bin folder icon
  9. Then click the "Upload" icon
  10. Click the "Browse" button
  11. Select and upload your file
  12. Click "Back" to navigate to your main older directory
  13. Click on the folder you want to change or use
  14. Click "Change Permissions"
  15. Then select the appropriate boxes
  16. Click "Change"
  17. To move a file, click on "Move File"
  18. Select location to move the file to
  19. Then click to confirm to "Move File"
  20. The file has been moved
  21. To delete a file, click on it and click on the "Delete" icon
  22. The file has been deleted
