DreamHost Profile
DreamHost is a hosting provider that has been doing things a bit differently since way back in 1997. By differently we mean something positive. DreamHost is simply a hosting provider that is in the industry for the love of web hosting. One of the things that we admire this company for is their efforts in keeping things as green as possible, from the hosting itself to only using coffee cups made from renewable resources. They are something as unique as a web host with a clean conscience.
The hosting provided by DreamHost is strong and reliable and it includes pretty much everything you need to run a successful website. Some of the features that are included in their plan are unlimited bandwidth, unlimited e-mail accounts and unlimited disk storage. Visit the DreamHost website to see all the features that are included in their hosting plans. You will also be able to find a domain name via their website as their parent company is an ICANN-accredit registrar.
DreamHost have created a Wiki page where you will be able to find answers to most of your questions. If this is not enough, you will also have the opportunity of browsing the DreamHost discussion forum. If all this would fail, simply send them an email and they will do what is in their power to answer within 24 hours.

DreamHost Reviews
I’m a long time customer and I’ve always liked Dreamhost. They’ve always been fair to me and when there have been some technical issues they’ve always been able to help me. Changing host has never been on my mind.
In all honestly I don’t know that much about web hosting but I think that Dreamhost’s been very easy “dealing with”. It was easy to setup the website, it hasn’t been down that much, I think that it’s cheap (I pay no more than a couple dollars per month) and everyone’s always been friendly. If they’re better than all the other web hosts I don’t know but it’s good web host – I can at least tell you that much.
My number one priority is having a fast website that is never down and this is what I’ve gotten with Dreamhost. I recommend!
I don’t know if I can add that much value to these user reviews as I’m not that tech savvy but I really like Dreamhost so I feel as if I have to drop a comment here. Everything’s been going smooth and the customer support is A+++
I really like that my plan is cheap but I’ve experienced a tad too much downtime for it being completely ok. Also, the response time from the customer support is way too long. Other than that’s it’s a decent provider. Not the best and not the worst.
I used Freehostia account which i had downtime from 10 to 20 mins every day, so i moved to Dreamhost server which gives me faster and reliable . No Problem while loading.. simply great
After bad experiences with three different hosting companies, I finally found DreamHost. After over three years now I am still thrilled with awesome service and continually improving features offered. I have never had any down time with my site, and only on a few short term instances have experienced the email servers going down. I host several sites on Dreamhost and have full control and management of my clients site features. Dreamhost has recently launched a new live chat support system that I have used on a couple occasions. Both experiences were pleasant. The support technician quickly and efficiently solved my problems. DreamHost - You Rock! Keep up the good work!
I've used dreamhost for several years. During that time, I've been offline a couple times due to hardware failures. It happens. What I find disturbing is that DH considers image hosting site as "file sharing." I have no issue with them not wanting copyrighted images posted. The software I use has mechanisms to allow the copyright holder to assert their rights. DH had no problem with my site until it began rising above 1 TB of traffic. So much for "unlimited" bandwidth. If you are not going to use much of their "unlimited" bandwidth or much of their "unlimited" disc space, and plan to have a small site, then, maybe DH is for you. I'm looking elsewhere.
Has gone downhill consistently for past couple of years. Constantly replacing hardware, moving accounts around. Very poor support by email only - no phone support. After 5 years with them am looking for a better provider.
I would not recommend Dreamhost to my worst enemy. The uptime on their services (including email, web, ssh, ftp) are abysmal. If you don't believe me, check out their status page at http://dreamhoststatus.com they cannot go a day without an outage of some sort. When there is an outage, the support them posts something snarky on the status page and take their time fixing things. If you look, they have had multiple day outages for email and web services all year long. I used to love their service because it was reliable and cheap. Now it is not reliable at all and it is a pain to be with them. Stay away from Dreamhost if you want reliable service.
The saving grace for Dreamhost is their technical support getting back to people when support tickets are created. Fast, reliable, a lot of companies could learn from them. For bloggers wanting to monetize, you can't beat them. Great place and reasonable investment, pays off and for itself really quick. On the other hand, I've gotten involved with projects that an SQL database problem on their end occurred minutes before a presentation to a prospective client. Taught me a lesson to do 'localhost' presentations as much as possible. Nobody wants to hire when the competition's site diverts their attention away from hard work done for weeks sometimes, lost in a second due to server issues. Again, bloggers...great. Entrepreneurs pushing Web2.0...close the deal first.
I've tested quite a few hosting companies and DreamHost is by far the best. Both the customer service as well as the hosting is superior to anything else I've ever tested before. In contrast to some other support teams that I’ve been in contact with, these guys actually know what they are talking about. Did I also mention that I haven't experienced any downtime since I partnered up with DreamHost? Well, I haven't… Thanks!
I think the only real pitfall with DreamHost is that the cPanel is jam packed with hearty goodness, so if you don't already know your way around it... You could very easily get lost. However, that's not something that would turn me off from a hosting company. It's just a minor annoyance.
At DreamHost, customer service is priority. The company promises to be friendly, helpful, and completely honest. (helpful, they are slow to reply, ask redundant questions and have no phone support.) The web site offers a “support wiki,” with extensive online documentation submitted by DreamHost staff and knowledgeable customers. (they do this so they don't have to shoulder calls. If you look on their site, not one phone number except a fax is offered. with 80 employees and 3000 servers, this 12 year old company cannot afford a phone line for support nor can you find any way to contact them outside of e-mail.) There is also a discussion board to reference for answers not found in the wiki. E-mail support is available 24/7, (that's a laugh,) and response time is generally less than 24 hours. Notice they say generally, sometimes it takes days and the replies so lack of knowledge, it frustrates the client beyond expectations of a reputable company. When there servers go off line all the time, they toss out excusses after excusses, and when the problems snowball, your site can be off line days or weeks and try getting ahold of anyone who can fix it!!!!! You will go crazy trying. Their hosting plans are a great comon, but watch out on the flip side when you really need help. My suggestion here is, stick with a reputable company who is not afraid to open their doors to a 24/7 support phone line desk. One who truely cares about their clients needs, on weekends and evenings and not just during Dreamhosts business hours......You will be much happier.
Especially for anyone with knowledge of Debian/Linux/Unix OS's, the server and shell environment are great and let you do things like compile a custom php binary.
