How to Create Additional FTP Accounts

When you run a website, at some point you'll need to create new FTP accounts or change the settings on any existing ones. FTP accounts allow users that you specify to have access to the web files via the standard file transfer protocol. It's a basic, standardized function that manages the wide array of specialized files needed to run a website. Some FTP accounts come already created by your hosting provider, and you can add others using the technique outlined in this step-by-step guide to managing your FTP systems in cPanel.

How to Create Additional Ftp Accounts

  1. Make sure you are logged in to cPanel
  2. After you are logged in, to add an account, scroll down
  3. Click the "FTP Account" link
  4. Scroll down
  5. You should see several FTP accounts already set up from when your provider created the website account
  6. To create a new FTP account, scroll up
  7. In the box provided, enter the login name you desire
  8. Enter a password for the account
  9. Renter the password
  10. If you leave "/demo" in the FTP address field, the user only has access to that specific directory
  11. To give greater access to a user, delete everything except the forward slash
  12. To put a quota limit on the FTP account, use the box provided
  13. Click the "Create" button
  14. That's it, the FTP account is now active
  15. Click "Go Back"
  16. Scroll to the file list and see that the new FTP account is showing up in the list
  17. From here you can delete as well
  18. You can also edit the FTP account properties
  19. Or, you can create additional FTP accounts
